I’ve been thinking about the Super Bowl halftime performances over the past few years, and I noticed an interesting trend. With the exception of 2020 where it was Latin based, every halftime performer from 2021 to 2024 has been an African American entertainer (including artists like The Weeknd, Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Mary J. Blige, Rihanna, and Usher). Even for Super Bowl LVI, where Eminem also performed, African American artists like 50 Cent and Anderson. Paak took center stage.
Now, it's been announced that Kendrick Lamar will headline Super Bowl LIX in 2025, continuing this trend. It makes me wonder:
Do you think this trend of featuring African American performers will continue for the remainder of the 2020s? Is the NFL intentionally embracing a more diverse lineup, or is it just happening naturally?
Who do you think might be chosen for future halftime shows? There are so many incredible artists out there—do you have any predictions or hopes for the next few performers?
I'm really curious to hear your thoughts on this and see who you think could be next on that iconic stage!
